Celebrate spring with Children’s Museum of Atlanta’s March programming

Families are invited to step into spring with Children’s Museum of Atlanta’s wide variety of monthly programming! Whether kids enjoy physics-filled fun exploring the newest feature exhibit “From Here to There,” learning about circles and mathematics during the annual Pi Day Celebration, dressing up as favorite superheroes during Superhero Science Night or tapping into Irish heritage for St. Patrick’s Day festivities, March at the Museum promises to be entertaining – and educational – for all ages! 

Feature Exhibit: “From Here to There”
Now through May 29, 2017
How are objects transported across land, sea and air? Families are invited to find out during Children’s Museum of Atlanta’s newest feature exhibit “From Here to There,” parked in Atlanta now through May 29! Developed by the Sciencenter in New York, this traveling educational exhibit showcases 12 interactive stations and teaches children about gravity, friction, the laws of motions and more physics-filled fun.

Themed daily programming during “From Here to There” exhibit will be March 1-31, 2017. Programming subject to change and may be altered during special events. All programs included with admission unless otherwise noted.

Mini-Musical: Let’s Go!
Weekdays at 11 a.m. and 12 p.m.; Saturday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.; Sunday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Children will join professors Zip and Dash on an exploration of how people get from here to there. By way of cars, bikes and even boats, the professors will teach young visitors about the science behind different methods of transportation.

Story Time
Weekdays at 1 p.m.; Saturday at 12 p.m.; Sunday at 2 p.m.
“Motion: Push and Pull, Fast and Slow” by Darlene R. Stille
This interactive story time will explore the concepts of motion by teaching children about movement, speed, force and inertia in an easy-to-learn way!

“Rosie Revere Engineer” by Andrea Beaty
Where some people see rubbish, Rosie Revere sees inspiration. This special story time will follow shy Rosie, as she creates great inventions –like hot dog dispensers, helium pants and python-repelling cheese hats– from odds and ends.

“There’s No Place Like Space: All About Our Solar System (Cat in the Hat’s Learning Library)” by Tish Rabe
A reading adventure that’s out of this world, astronomers are launched on a wild trip to visit the eight planets in the solar system, along with Cat in the Hat, Thing One, Thing Two, Dick and Sally.

Music & Movement
Weekdays and Saturday at 2 p.m.; Sunday at 3 p.m.
Children can join the Imaginators for a highly energetic music and movement, where they will pretend to be a human jetliner and “fly” around the stage, interpret how planets would dance (if they had legs!) and take a trip through time, while acting out ways people get from here to there.

Super Spectacular Science Show
Weekdays at 3 p.m. and weekends at 4 p.m.
Professor Lab Coat and his assistants will lead a mesmerizing science demonstration put on for the entire Museum.

Eat A Georgia Rainbow
Sunday at 12 p.m.
Children will embark on a scavenger hunt and cold cooking activity with the Imaginators to learn more about fruits and veggies harvested in Georgia throughout the year.

Art Studio Projects
Weekdays 10:30 a.m. –3:30 p.m.; Weekends 11 a.m. –4 p.m.
Little ones can discover colors and explore artists from around the world through various crafts like making and decorating a hot air balloon, a floating boat or designing a toy parachute.

Build It Lab
Weekdays, 10:30 a.m. –3:30 p.m.; Weekends 11 a.m. –4 p.m.
Children will put their woodworking and creative tools to the test in this supervised space where they have access to real tools and materials. Encouraging inventions, this Build It Lab will spark creativity by allowing young innovators to design and construct a sling shot car. 

Science Bar
Weekdays 10:30 a.m. –2:30 p.m.; Weekends 11 a.m. –3:30 p.m.
Science is everywhere, especially on the mezzanine at the Museum! Step Up to Science is the new STEM exhibit area and features interactive exhibits about light, robotics and how the human body works! Families can saddle up to the science bar for a full menu of fun activities, knowledge and have their questions turned into answers by one of the STEM educators.

March Special Programming

Legacy Dance Company
Saturday, March 4 at 12 p.m.
The talents of Legacy Dance Company will wow guests this March! This group of young dancers loves to dance and perform for the community through ballet, jazz, tap and Broadway numbers, as well as compete at various events and competitions throughout the year.

Meet the Holidays: Holi
Saturday, March 11 and Sunday, March 12 from 11 a.m. –4 p.m.
Families will learn about the Hindu holiday Holi, the Indian festival of color, through this delightful event led by Museum Imaginators.

• 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday: Special Presentation
  Families can join Kahaaniya for Kids as they present “Holi: Unlock the Free Spirit Within All of Us,” a colorful and interactive puppet show incorporating energetic narrative dance.
• 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday: Special Story Time
  Children will learn about the Hindu holiday Holi, the Indian festival of color, through an interactive presentation of “Amma, Tell Me About Holi” by Bhakti Mathur.
• 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday: Special Music & Movement
  Kahaaniya for Kids will teach young visitors how to express their emotions through facial expressions, hand motion and body movement.

Pi Day Celebration
Tuesday, March 14 from 11 a.m. –6 p.m.
*Pi Day is in conjunction with Target Free Second Tuesday, which offers extended hours and FREE admission to the public from 1-6 p.m.

• 11 a.m. and 12 p.m.: Special Pi Story Time
  It’s time for a math adventure! Children will follow along with Sir Cumference, Lady Di of Ameter and Radius in Cindi Neuschwander’s “Sir Cumference and the Dragon of Pi (A Math Adventure).”
• 1 p.m.: Special Music & Movement
  Kids will use their imaginations while working together to solve puzzles as they search the Museum to find the apple pie that was stolen right before the Pi Day Festival Baking Contest. 
• 2 p.m.: Ziggy’s Bubble Themed Magic Show
  Combining magic, animals and lots of bubbles, Ziggy’s interactive performance is perfect for the entire family.
• 3 p.m.: Special Pi Story Time
  Children can gather ‘round for the story of Ol’ Bear and his quest to find the ultimate pie, as the Imaginators read Lisa Wheeler’s “Ugly Pie.”
• 4 p.m.: Super Spectacular Science Show
  Professor Lab Coat and his assistants will lead a mesmerizing science demonstration put on for the entire Museum.
• 5 p.m.: Special Music & Movement
  The entire family can join in during the annual mathematical Pi Day celebration, as the entire Museum searches for 17 pies in honor of Pi Day 2017!
• 10:30 a.m. –3:30 p.m.: Science Bar
  Science is everywhere, especially on the mezzanine at the Museum!   In this creative workshop, children will make foam Pi day oven mitts to help them remember that Pi means 3.14
• 10:30 a.m. –5 p.m.: Built It Lab
  In honor of Pi Day, Build It Lab visitors will use a hammer and nails to create their own Pi symbol wall hanger.

Meet the Holidays: St. Patrick’s Day
Saturday, March 17 from 11 a.m. –4 p.m.

• 1 p.m.: Special Story Time
  Kids will join the Imaginators for a special reading of “The Night Before St. Patrick’s Day” by Natasha Wing.
• 2 p.m.: Special Music & Movement
  In this upbeat music and movement, children will kick up their heels and learn the art of Irish Step Dancing, followed by a good ‘ole fashioned dance off!
• 10:30 a.m. –3:30 p.m.: Art Studio
  Families will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by creating their own shamrocks to commemorate this day of luck.

Meet the Holidays: Navroz
Saturday, March 18 and Sunday, March 19 from 11 a.m. –4 p.m.
Families are invited to celebrate Navroz, a spring festival symbolizing new beginnings, renewal of nature and the first day of the Persian New Year.

• 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday: Special Presentation
  Guests are in for a treat, as the Ismaili Choir will perform cultural songs for Navroz.
• 12 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday: Special Story Time
  Children will learn about the Persian New Year Navroz during this special reading of Nissa Kara’s “An Afghan Navroz Story,” which follows Ariana and Jamil, as they commemorate this joyous occasion in Afghanistan.
• 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday: Special Music & Movement
  Families will explore rhythm and movement while dancing the colorful scarf dance to celebrate Navroz.
• 11 a.m. –4:30 p.m.: Art Studio
  To celebrate the holiday, kids are invited to decorate tiles with colorful geometric patterns and experience Navroz blessing eggs.

Superhero Science Night
Saturday, March 18 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Calling all kid superheroes and mad scientists! Children’s Museum of Atlanta invites families to go up, up and away at its annual Superhero Science Night! Kids can come dressed as their favorite superhero and learn how to save the world with the power of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This special event will feature various science stations, as well as a “Science Spectacular Show” from Professor Labcoat. **Space is limited, so families are encouraged to act quickly! Tickets are $8 for members/$18 for non-members. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Tickets will not be available at the door.  

Tiny Thinkers Week
Monday, March 20 through Friday, March 24 from 10:30 a.m. –4 p.m.
*Please note: the Museum is closed on Wednesdays

• 10:30 a.m. –2:30 p.m.: Scientific Method Scavenger Hunt
  During this scavenger hunt, children will follow clues through the Museum to learn first-hand about the steps scientists take when solving a problem. To get started, families can visit Professor Labcoat at the Science Bar to pick up an official booklet.
• 10:30 a.m. –3:30 p.m.: Art Studio
  Young visitors will discover new shades and hues while mixing and matching the three primary colors.
• 10:30 a.m. –3:30 p.m.: Build It Lab
  Curious minds will use real tools and materials to make a geometric bubble wand or rubber band helicopter.
