Children’s Museum of Atlanta Marches into Spring with Programs for Women’s History Month, St. Patrick’s Day and More

Families invited to channel their inner superhero and celebrate a variety of holidays, including Holi, Purim and Easter

Children’s Museum of Atlanta invites families to start the new season off right to celebrate Women’s History Month, Holi, Purim, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter and more. Special activities are designed to honor the achievements of inspirational and trailblazing women. Kids can partake in festivities all month long for special holidays and events. March also marks the return of the Museum’s Superhero Science Night when little heroes let their imaginations take flight while they learn the science behind some of their favorite superheroes’ powers and tools. Children’s Museum of Atlanta’s featured exhibit, Outside the Box, continues this month with select special programs. The Museum will also host Sensory Sunday this month with special accommodations for children to enjoy the offerings to avoid overstimulation.

March Special Programming

Women’s History Month

Throughout March (excluding March 2, 3, 17, 23, 24, 30 and 31)

Little ones and families will celebrate all month long with crash courses in Women’s History and activities inspired by the achievements and careers of women who are pioneers in their fields. Children are also invited to welcome in Spring with Nature Yoga and special Spring-time jam sessions.

Monday – Friday: 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.

Saturday – Sunday: 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Science Bar

Little scientists will learn about Margaret Collins, “The Termite Lady!”, an entomologist who studied termites and other bugs. Guests get to discover how insects hear and classify insects just like Margaret.

Art Studio
Aspiring architects are welcomed to follow in the footsteps of Dame Zaha Hadid, “The Queen of the Curve” and create their very own curved buildings.

Jane’s Innovation Station

Every bird is different – just like people! Little ones will learn about what different birds like while they design their own bird house, bird feeder, bird bath or bird nest and hear the story of Phoebe Snetsinger, one of the most impactful ornithologists.

Building Blocks

Every day brings new excitement for guests who can make their own abstract masterpieces, build popsicle bird nests or shake their way into Spring with some nature-themed dance moves.

Sensory Sunday & Purim

Sunday, March 3

During Sensory Sunday, the Museum offers modified playtime from 9 – 11 a.m. with limited admission and sound adjustments. The 10 a.m. stage reading of “Lola Out Loud” features the narrative without music, microphones or projection. Instead, there will be a conventional readthrough with the physical book and bean bag cushions. This month, guests are also invited to celebrate Purim, a holiday that celebrates the saving of the Jewish people, through a special musical performance from Michael Levine.

Superhero Science Night

Saturday, March 9 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Kiddos will transform into their favorite superheroes with hands-on activities. They can dive into the realms of aerodynamics, the chemistry of invisibility, combustion, magnetism, physics and more. Each station is strategically placed throughout the museum and designed so that even the youngest superheroes can explore the wonders of science!

Tiny super heroes will make bottle rockets that fly in the sky like a real Guardian of the galaxy! ​ ​ 

Science Bar

Legend of Korra enthusiasts can saddle up to the Science Bar to celebrate one of the Museum’s favorite Earth Benders, Bolin, and discover the chemical reactions behind volcanic eruptions.

Art Studio

Little ones will enjoy developing their own superhero forcefield to protect themselves and create secret images that are only visible in the dark – just like Raven from Teen Titans!

Jane’s Innovation Station

Kids will learn how to build a Batmobile o ride with Robin while they learn about aerodynamics.

Disappearing Face + Homopolar Motor + Ferrofluid Demonstration

Special Guest ​
Decatur Makers Space joins the Museum to demonstrate how they make superhero cosplay props! Visitors are encouraged to check out the props that Decatur Maker’s designed using 3D printers, LED and circuits.

Navroz Programming

Saturday, March 16

Children’s Museum of Atlanta presents special programming with Ismaili Civic to show how Navroz is recognized in Afghanistan, India and America! Nowruz celebrates the beginning of the Iranian New Year.

St. Patrick’s Day

Sunday, March 17

In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, guests will experience an interactive Irish folk tale on Stage and enjoy Charlotte Guillain’s story, “Finn MacCool and the Giant's Causeway” that follows Finn as he outsmarts the Red Giant, all while learning about Irish folklore and culture. They will even learn how to dance an Irish jig, sing a class Irish-American lullaby or make their own Celtic knot art.

Little weavers can hone their fine motor skills while learning how to create a beautiful, traditional Celtic knot fit for display.

Attendees will learn about Holi, the Hindu Festival of Colors, Love and Spring, with a special Kahaaniya for Kids Performance at 1 p.m.

Visitors are invited to celebrate Easter with a Storytime about the rebirth of Christ. Families are also welcomed to participate in an Egg Race and Bunny Hop or make their own cotton ball bunnies.

Outside the Box
Through Sunday, May 5
Children and families are invited to experience Children’s Museum of Atlanta’s first featured exhibit. The exhibit, Outside the Box, aims to fuel children’s imaginations by unleashing a world of timeless fun. Simple cardboard boxes are transformed into bridges, ordinary cylinders become futuristic rockers and basic blocks create exciting obstacle courses. First opened in 2014, Outside the Box ignites the creative spark in adults and children alike, encouraging innovative thinking while uncovering the foundational elements of math, engineering, and technology. Featured programs will change monthly. Outside the Box is proudly sponsored by Georgia Power, with additional support from Pratt Industries.

Museum Hours: The Museum will operate in a timed entry model where guests can visit between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
